Designed by Coach Jeff Pearson over the last 20 years, the SCORE TRAINING SYSTEM is an energy system based training program that pushes progression over time. Designed to keep training specific and to motivate improvement, SCORE uses a test set, pace chart assigning value to each repeat as well as a base interval. Some athletes have referred to the system as "video game training" because you accumulate points by training in the proper system adding a level of accountability and fun to each workout. Here is an example of a workout using SCORE SWIM TRAINING:
200 1 x 200 @ 1:00 Warm up REC 600 12 x 50 @ :10 alt 50 head out/ 50 swim F1 SCORE Training Set (F3 = 1 pt for 12 pts total) 2,000 4x{1 x 200 @ :30 free REC {3 x 100 @ BI-10 free F3 600 8 x 75 @ :15 flutter kick on side alt x 75 F1 300 3 x 100 @ :15 recovery REC 3,700 Yards
In the workout above, the SCORE TRAINING set consists of a four sets of a 200 recovery and 3 x 100's at F3 effort on your base interval minus :10 seconds. For each 100 that you swim under your F3 time, you receive one point for a maximum total of 12 points.
